SAY SAMPLER

April Vacation Theatre Mini-Camp program for 6th-12th grade.

Cost: Free for Somerville residents ($50 for nonresidents)

Registration is required as space is limited to 30 student

Monday, April 16, 2018 9am-2pm

Tuesday, April 17, 2018, 9am-12pm (half day program)

*Tuesday, April 17, 1pm-Tour of Emerson College (Pending, Optional, add-on event)

Location: The Rockwell Theatre, 255 Elm Street, Davis Square

Join us for a day and half of theatre arts for students in grades 6-12, On Monday, students will sample from a series of workshops on topics such as Improvisation, Stage Combat, Costume & Makeup Design, Musical Theatre, Lighting & Set Design, and Prop Making. Tuesday is “A Play in a Day!” Students will bring together all they learned on Monday to create a short performance piece. Think of it as Chopped for the theatre!  No prior experience necessary. Students interested in on-stage, off-stage, and backstage workings of the theatre are encouraged to participate.

SAY SATURDAY SERIES

Costume Creation (Open Studios weekend)

May 5, 2018; 2-4 pm

Location: The Rockwell Theatre, 255 Elm Street, Davis Square

Intro to costume design and construction.  Drop in anytime between 2-4 to design and create a costume piece you can keep!  Students will learn how costume designers begin the process of “dressing” a character and then apply those skills in our pop-up costume construction shop!

SAY! Sings (Porchfest)

May 12, 2018; 2-4 pm

Location: 303 Highland Ave, Somerville

Come hear SAY students perform their favorite songs from past and current Somerville Public School musicals, as well as the Broadway songbook! If you are a Somerville student and would like to perform with SAY at Porchfest, please be sure to register.

Musical Theatre Dance

May 19th, 2018

2pm: Grades K-5 3pm: Grades 6-12

Location: The Rockwell Theatre, 255 Elm Street, Davis Square

Put on your dancing shoes and learn how to dance like a Broadway star! Jayme Latorella  joins SAY to teach a 45 minute introductory dance class and musical theatre choreography! Please dress comfortably.  No prior dance experience required!

SAY SUMMER INSTITUTE

Theatre Training Institute

Age minimum: students entering 7th grade in the fall of 2018

July 24-August 4, 9-5 (Monday-Friday)

Additional rehearsals/performances:

August 2- 6-9 pm (dress rehearsal)

August 3- 6-8 pm (Performance 6:30-8)

August 4- 1-4 (Performance 2-3:30)

Location: The Rockwell Theatre, 255 Elm Street, Davis Square

During the institute, students will have the opportunity to work with professional teaching artists on voice, movement, and acting skills as well as techniques such as improvisation, masks, and
devising/playwriting. Students with specialized interests in musical theatre and technical theatre will
also have an opportunity to expand on those skills with individually designed concentrations. Field trips to local performance venues are included. This is a two-week program and students must be available for the full two-weeks.
